Two players from the United States Hockey League made commitments to play college hockey at UConn and Yale, respectively, on Tuesday.
UConn landed a commit from Sioux City Musketeers left wing Chase Bradley, the USHL team announced. Bradley, a St. Louis native, is in his third season in the USHL, having spent the first two with the Omaha Lancers.
Bradley has three assists through Sioux City’s first three games this season. In 34 games last season with Omaha, he had seven goals and 12 assists. In October, he was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL draft. He spent the 2018-19 season as a tender with the Lancers, potting three goals and adding a helper in 37 games.
Bradley, an ’02, previously was committed to Northeastern. He is the second former NU recruit to head to Storrs in recent months, joining Youngstown Phantoms forward Nate Hanley. UConn’s staff has made a habit of finding good players that other Hockey East programs could not find room for or did not want. Freshmen Artem Shlaine (Boston University), Nick Capone (Maine) and John Spetz (Merrimack) were decommits from other Hockey East schools. A few years ago, Max Letunov came to UConn after not being able to get into BU.
Yale commits Dubuque defenseman
Dubuque Fighting Saints defenseman Dylan Herzog verbally committed to play college hockey at Yale, it was announced Tuesday.
Herzog, an ’01 from Auburn, Wash., is in his first season in the USHL. Through four games, he has one assist. He spent the prior two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Wenatchee Wild. He appeared in 122 career games for that organization, compiling five goals and 20 assists.
Yale assistant coach Paul Kirtland has a relationship with the Dubuque organization from his time as an assistant coach there in 2017-18.
