It might be a holiday week, but that isn’t stopping recruits from committing to schools and the NCAA granting transfers immediate eligibility.
As NEHJ reported in this space a month ago, Philadelphia Flyers prospect Jack St. Ivany is transferring from Yale to Boston College. The Eagles received good news this week from the NCAA, meaning St. Ivany will be eligible to suit up the next time BC takes the ice.
St. Ivany, a ’99 from Manhattan Beach, Calif., comes to BC after two seasons at Yale. He had seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points in 62 games for the Bulldogs. Prior to arriving at Yale, he played in the USHL for the Sioux Falls Stampede.
St. Ivany isn’t the only transfer eligible immediately. NEHJ contributor Mark Divver reported that Tristan Mullin will be able to don the Catamounts sweater when Vermont plays its next game. The ’96 forward from Cartwright, Manitoba, comes to Burlington from Cornell, where he was scheduled to be a captain this season.
Mullin is coming off back-to-back 20 point seasons. He scored nine goals and 13 assists in 29 games last season after posting eight goals and 13 assists for 28 points as a sophomore.
Two prep alums choose Army
Maine Nordiques right wing Reese Farrell and Junior Bruins defenseman Jude Brower have committed to Army West Point.
Farrell played two seasons at North Yarmouth Academy and two at Northfield Mount Hermon before making the jump to the North American Hockey League for this season. In 16 games with the Nordiques, Farrell has five goals and four assists. His best asset is his compete level. Projecting forward, he’ll be a bottom-six, energy forward in Atlantic Hockey.
In 18 USPHL NCDC games for the Junior Bruins this season, Brower has a goal and eight assists. The ’01 from Mahopac, N.Y., played prep school hockey at Brunswick the last two seasons. He had a breakout season in 2019-20 at the prep level, scoring nine goals and 23 assists for 32 points in 31 games for the Bruins.
Yale adds another goaltender
A few days after committing a goaltender for next season, Yale picked up another backstop on Tuesday. ’03 Jack Stark will join the Bulldogs to start the 2023-24 season.
The Chaska, Minn., native has played one game with the Chicago Steel in the USHL this season. He posted a win in his only start while keeping a .944 save percentage. Stark has played previously at Chaska High School and for the Sioux Falls Power 16-U.
Luke Pearson, an ’01 from Albernia Valley in the BCHL, is the goaltender who committed for next season.
