Thayer Academy alum Reilly Moran has a new college hockey destination after switching his commitment from Army to St. Lawrence.
The ’00 right-shot forward from Hingham, Mass., is in his first of junior hockey with the BCHL’s Powell River Kings. Moran has tallied 14 goals and 12 assists in 41 games so far this season.
He was a four-year standout at Thayer from 2015-2019. As a senior in 2018-19, he had 10 goals and 15 assists in 28 games. Moran was a honest, hard-working forward for Tony Amonte’s Tigers.
Northeastern adds goaltender of the future
Former Vermont commit Devon Levi has made it official. Word had been circulating around the rinks for about a month that the Dollard-des Ormeaux, Quebec, native had switched his commitment from the Catamounts to Northeastern.
Levi, a ’01 who plays for the Carleton Place Canadians in the CCHL, was named the MVP of the 2019 World Junior A Challenge that took place last month in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Northeastern has a tremendous class lined up for next fall, but Levi’s addition fills a huge void as the Huskies were in desperate need of a top flight goaltender. In 23 games this season for Carleton Place, Levi has a .942 save percentage.
Welsch commits to UMass Lowell
Northeastern wasn’t the only Hockey East program to recently secure a goaltender for 2020-21. UMass Lowell recently picked up a commitment from Henry Welsch, a ’00 from the Aberdeen Wings in the NAHL.
Welsch has posted a .934 save percentage in 20 starts so far this season. The former Lakeville South (MN) star is in his first full season of junior hockey after graduating last spring. A captain for his high school team, his heroics in the sectional playoffs almost lifted his team to the state tournament.
Welsch’s commitment is important as UMass Lowell will lose New York Rangers prospect Tyler Wall to graduation. The River Hawks will have Logan Neaton, a freshman this season, and Northfield Mount Hermon alum Eric Green, who is spending the second half of this season with the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks.
