Dexter Southfield defenseman Mikey Adamson committed to play college hockey at the University of Massachusetts, it was announced over the weekend.
The Quincy, Mass., native will be a senior at the Brookline, Mass., prep school in 2019-20. In addition to playing for Dan Donato at Dexter, Adamson plays for the Neponset Valley River Rats 18-U.
Adamson is a somewhat undersized defenseman, but he skates very well and plays with jam.
“Mikey’s skating and compete level is unmatched. He will have success at the next level because of these two great attributes,” Donato said of his left-shot defenseman.
Adamson has a hard one-timer, isn’t afraid to mix it up, and his puck decisions are getting better. His hockey sense and ability to limit turnovers are a major reason the UMass coaching staff felt comfortable offering Adamson.
“Mikey has learned to play at a faster pace by practicing against better players on a daily basis. He now understands how to use his partner better and how to bring forcheckers closer to him to make more space for the forwards he is moving the puck up to,” Donato explained.
Adamson, who played two seasons at BC High before moving onto prep school, has been a key cog for the River Rats for a couple of years now.
“Mikey is a well rounded player which allows me to play him in every situation. He is a tremendous teammate and a real pleasure to coach,” said River Rats 18-U head coach Ross Pasquantonio.
Crespo to gain USHL experience
Salisbury senior defenseman and Penn State recruit Jarod Crespo will play for the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers this weekend, according to sources.
The ’02 played for USA Hockey at the 2018 Five Nations Tournament and has been a three-year participant at USA Hockey Player Development camps. From Easthampton Township, N.J., Crespo will return to prep school following his stint playing for Pat Mikesch’s team.
Former Selects Academy forward makes commit
Ryan Coughlin, who played the previous three seasons for Selects Academy at South Kent, has committed to Robert Morris University, a school that competes in Atlantic Hockey.
The Rochester, N.Y., native is a big power forward who has gotten off to a terrific start with the Corpus Christi IceRays in the North American Hockey League. In his first 14 junior hockey games, Coughlin has seven goals and three assists.
Coughlin and his teammates won the 2019 USA Hockey 18-U National Championship last April in Grand Rapids, Mich. His older brother, Johnny Coughlin, was a defenseman for Holy Cross from 2015-2019.
