Kent School left defenseman Nick Marciano has committed to play college hockey at Princeton.
The Greenwich, Conn., native spent this fall playing for the Neponset Valley River Rats 18-U. In 18 games, he scored five goals and eight assists. In 2019-20 at Kent, Marciano tallied three goals and 20 assists in 26 games.
With the prep school hockey season in jeopardy, Marciano appears destined to finish out the 2020-21 campaign in junior hockey. He recently debuted with the Minnesota Magicians in the North American Hockey League.
In addition to Princeton, a couple of other Ivy League schools had shown varying degrees of interest in Marciano. Marciano was the third ranked uncommitted ’02, second among defensemen, in New England in my recent report on the subject.
Marciano has good size and skating and his stick is above average. If there’s one area of his game that he could improve, it’s becoming more assertive and taking over games. Still, the future appears bright for Marciano. His development has come a long way over the past two years.
Now that Marciano is off the market, combined with Nate Benoit and Tucker Hartmann committing to North Dakota and Yale, respectively, earlier this fall, the top uncommitted ’02 defenseman in the region is now Youngstown Phantoms defenseman Kyle Furey. The Marblehead, Mass., native and former Lawrence Academy standout has two assists through four games of the USHL season.
