Ian Carpentier's recruiting process is a long story centered around perseverance. On Wednesday night, it all became worth it when the Worcester, Mass., native verbally committed to play college hockey at Yale University.
The '00 center is in his sixth season with the Boston Junior Bruins, but his first with the organization's NCDC team. Centering the top line, Carpentier has seven goals and 14 assists in 14 games. He played three seasons, from 2014-2017, with the Junior Bruins 16-U before playing the last two with the Junior Bruins 18-U.
Less than a year ago, his college hockey career seem destined for Division III. He had committed to Endicott College for this current season, but had second thoughts and realized his dream of Division I wasn't over.
Carpentier has always had the speed and skill to be noticed at showcases, but finally got his break recently. He's become more dynamic and it's translated to more success on the score sheet. He had offers from Brown, Harvard, Holy Cross, and Princeton, in addition to the Bulldogs, according to multiple sources. Some of the offers were for 2021-22, but he chose to take Yale's for 2020-21.
Carpentier becomes the eighth member of the Junior Bruins to be committed to a college hockey program, but the first to do so during the 2019-20 season. The Junior Bruins, coached by Mike Anderson, will be in action three times this weekend at the Beantown Fall Classic. The team faces Connecticut Jr. Rangers Thursday, Jersey Hitmen on Saturday and New Jersey Rockets on Sunday.

Harvard picked up a commitment from Whitby Fury left-shot defenseman Owen Simpson, it was announced Tuesday. The '03 from Toronto, Ontario, is in his first season of junior hockey with the Ontario Junior Hockey League team. In 10 games, he has three assists.
Simpson, who played the past two seasons for the Toronto Red Wings youth organization, was a fourth round pick of the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.
