The college hockey season might be over, but commitment news on the recruiting trail has continued.
Dexter Southfield senior left wing Jack Dempsey announced his commitment to Boston College after his breakout year. The Natick, Mass., native led Dexter Southfield in scoring with 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 30 games.
The remarkable year represented a 35-point increase from his junior season, his first in prep hockey. Before joining Dexter Southfield, Dempsey, an ’01, played two seasons at Catholic Memorial and one at Natick High School.
Dempsey, a big winger, is a power forward who protects pucks and has very good hands, especially for his size. His skating still needs work, but it has come a long way. He’s proven that he has the tools to produce at the prep level.
Bongo commits to Sacred Heart
South Kent Selects Academy forward Jake Bongo has committed to Sacred Heart, he announced via Instagram on Thursday.
The Ridgefield, Conn., native had 27 goals and 49 assists in 56 midget games this season. A Mid Fairfield Jr. Rangers product, Bongo just completed his second season at South Kent Selects Academy.
Bongo is on the smaller side, but he competes well, plays with a chip on his shoulder and hunts pucks. His improvement over the last 18 months has been impressive, to say the least. Hockey East and ECAC Hockey schools had interest in Bongo.
Bongo, who has been mentioned several times in NEHJ as being a top uncommitted ’03, is a notable commit for the Pioneers. While it was cut short, the 2019-20 season was a terrific one for Sacred Heart, a program that will be playing in a new on-campus, state-of-the-art rink in the coming years.
Merrimack adds another St. Andrew’s product
On Thursday, Merrimack received a commitment from ’02 left-shot defenseman Liam Cavan of St. Andrew’s College, a prep school in Aurora, Ontario. A mobile, offensive-minded defenseman, Cavan had a couple of solid outings in front of scouts in New England this winter.
Cavan joins prep teammates Mark Hillier, an ’02 center, and Devlin O’Brien, an ’01 left wing, in committing to Merrimack.
