Cam Gaudette has committed to play college hockey at Northeastern, following in his older brother’s footsteps.
Gaudette, a '00 from Braintree, Mass., has played the past two seasons for the Northeast Generals in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). In 2019-20, the left-shot defenseman registered eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points in 49 games. That marked a 16-point increase in his production over his first season of junior hockey.
Gaudette is an offensive defenseman who plays with jam and a mean streak, as evidenced by his 233 penalty minutes over 111 games with the Generals. He skates well and has swagger and confidence. He’ll join the Huskies for the start of the 2021-22 season after another year of junior hockey.
Gaudette played youth hockey for the Boston Advantage. His older brother, Adam Gaudette, was a three-year star at Northeastern, winning the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s top player in 2018. Cam has another older brother, Brady, who will be a sophomore on the hockey team at Maine in the fall.
LIU adds a transfer
Defenseman Mat Harris, who spent his first two college hockey seasons at RPI, will transfer to Long Island University, it was announced this week.
The '96 is a product of the Boston Junior Bruins having spent six seasons with various teams throughout that organization. In 2016-17, he captained the USPHL Premier team, scoring three goals and adding 25 assists in 47 games.
At RPI, Harris struggled to get in the lineup. He appeared in just 35 games over two seasons, compiling one goal and three assists. The Sudbury, Mass., native didn’t play in 2019-20 so he’ll likely be eligible to compete immediately for the Sharks.
LIU is entering its first season of varsity hockey in 2020-21. The team is coached by Needham, Mass., native Brett Riley, who was the assistant coach at Colgate this past season.
