The University of New Hampshire recently received a commitment from Berkshire junior goaltender Jed Baliotti, it was learned Wednesday afternoon.
The New Canaan, Conn., native recently wrapped up his third season at the Sheffield, Mass., prep school. The 2019-20 campaign was by far his best as he finished the season with a .930 save percentage, which ranked third among qualifying goaltenders.
Baliotti, an ’02, led Berkshire to the NEPSAC Elite 8 semifinals this past season. It was an unexpected journey for a team that not many had pegged in the top eight of prep hockey before the start of the season.
Always considered a good goaltender, Baliotti’s stock rose exponentially this season. In addition to UNH, other schools that showed interest included Colgate, Harvard and Merrimack.
Northeastern recruit tenders in USHL
South Kent Selects Academy 15 Only defenseman Vinny Borgesi has signed a tender agreement with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm.
A Northeastern commit, Borgesi is an elite defenseman. On the smaller side, the Philadelphia, Pa., native has very good hockey sense, skating, and compete. He made USA Hockey’s NTDP Evaluation Camp, but did not make the final roster for next year’s U-17 team. Borgesi did represent the red, white and blue at the Youth Olympic Games in January.
Bocharov heads to WHL
After just one season at Mount Saint Charles, ’04 defenseman Pavel Bocharov will depart for the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades. The Escondido, Calif., native was one of the top 15 Only defensemen in the country. He was recently recognized by NEHJ as being a Second Team All-Northeast Pack performer.
By signing a standard player agreement in the WHL, Bocharov forgoes NCAA eligibility. He joins former Mount Saint Charles center Zachary Bolduc in opting to play major junior. Bolduc left the school’s 16-U program at the end of September to join Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL.
