Ryan Warsofsky (North Marshfield, Mass.) is the new bench boss in San Jose.
The Sharks announced Thursday that the 36-year-old will take over as the 11th head coach in franchise history, replacing David Quinn (Cranston, R.I.).
“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to be named as the head coach of the San Jose Sharks,” Warsofsky said in a statement. “This a tremendous opportunity to continue to be part of a well-respected organization, and my family and I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter. I want to thank our Owner Hasso Plattner, President Jonathan Becher, General Manager Mike Grier and Assistant GM’s Tom Holy and Joe Will for their trust in me. This is an organization that has a rich history of winning, and I can’t wait to get to work on coaching a team that our fans can be proud of.”
Warsofsky has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Sharks, handling the defense and the penalty kill.

Ryan knows our existing group well, has the respect of the players who he will be working with, and will be a great teacher for the young players who will be joining our organization.”

Before joining San Jose, Warsofsky was the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for two seasons from 2020 to 2022. He compiled a 71-25-6-7 record in his time with the Wolves, including a Calder Cup championship in 2022. That season, he guided Chicago to a league-best 50-16-5-5 regular season record.
He was also the head coach of the Charlotte Checkers in 2019-20 after winning the Calder Cup as an assistant with the team in 2018-19. The Checkers went 34-22-5-0 with Warsofsky at the helm. Before jumping to the AHL, Warsofsky spent five seasons with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL. His final two seasons in South Carolina saw him serve as head coach and director of hockey operations. Previously, he was an assistant at Curry College in 2012-13.
As a player, Warsofsky played college hockey at Sacred Heart and Curry after graduating from Cushing Academy. Following his collegiate career, his stops included 20 games with the Turnhout White Caps in the Netherlands in the 2011-12 season.
Warsofky’s younger brother, David (North Marshfield, Mass.), played in the German DEL league this season, captaining the Ausburger Panther. He played at Cushing and Boston University before his pro career took him to the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils organizations.
