Judd Brackett is the new director of amateur scouting with the Minnesota Wild, it was announced Thursday.
The Harwich, Mass., native had been with the Vancouver Canucks organization since 2008 prior to leaving earlier this season due to a contract dispute. He served as director of amateur scouting with Vancouver for the past five seasons after cutting his teeth as an amateur scout.
Brackett was a former collegiate goaltender at Northeastern and Connecticut College. He’s respected throughout the hockey industry for his picks in the NHL draft while with Vancouver. The Canucks have drafted quite a few players with New England ties over the past few years, including Tyler Madden and Aidan McDonough, both of whom starred for Northeastern last season, and Harvard offensive defenseman Jack Rathbone.
"We are excited to add Judd to this role and oversee our amateur scouting efforts," said Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin, a Wilbraham, Mass., native.
Doneghey’s new job
Former Merrimack College goaltender and assistant coach Mike Doneghey has a new role within the Chicago Blackhawks organization.
The West Roxbury, Mass., native played for the Warriors from 1989 through 1993, appearing in 24 games over the course of four seasons. He was an assistant coach on Chris Serino’s staff from 1999 to 2005.
He spent four seasons as head coach of the Bridgewater Bandits in the old Eastern Junior Hockey League before joining the Blackhawks as an amateur scout. He served in that role until this past season when he was elevated to head USA scout. It was announced earlier this week that he will become the organization’s director of player evaluation and recruitment.
He replaces his former Merrimack coach, Ron Anderson, who is taking a lesser role as a senior advisor with the Blackhawks.
Davidson heading back to USHL
After an up and down freshman season, UMass forward Jeremy Davidson is heading back to junior hockey. He’ll spend the 2020-21 season with the USHL’s Fargo Force before returning to UMass to finish out his three years of eligibility.
Davidson, a 2000 birth-year player from Schoolcraft, Mich., had a goal and two assists in 22 games for the Minutemen. The Honeybaked and Shattuck-St. Mary’s product came to UMass after spending two seasons in the USHL. In 123 games between Fargo and Central Illinois, he registered 37 goals and 36 assists.
Former UMass goaltender lands coaching gig
Kevin Moore, a backup goaltender for UMass from 2008 through 2012, will be the next head coach at College of St. Scholastica, a Division 3 program in Duluth, Minn.
Moore, 31, played prep school hockey at Williston Northampton. The Belle Mead, N.J., native jumped into coaching almost right away following his graduation from UMass. He’s been the goaltending coach for the USPHL’s New Hampshire Junior Monarchs and Princeton University. Most recently, he’s been an assistant coach at Division 3 powerhouse Adrian College in Michigan.
