After five seasons on C.J. Marottolo’s staff at Sacred Heart, Joel Beal is moving on to become an assistant coach for Enrico Blasi at Miami, a source has confirmed.
The Brantford, Ontario, native played for Kevin Sneddon and Nate Leaman at Union College from 2001-2005, serving as an alternate captain as both a junior and senior. He served as an assistant coach for his alma mater from 2001-2013 before moving onto the Pioneers.
After three seasons as an assistant at SHU, he was promoted to associate head coach for the past two seasons. Beal, 37, is a well-respected recruiter who has helped elevate the status of the SHU program. He has strong connections in both Ontario and in the BCHL.
A national search is underway to replace Beal on the staff at SHU that also includes assistant coach Scott McDougall, a Mansfield, Mass., native who played college hockey at UConn.
