The 2018 Eastern Exposure Cup is set for this weekend at three local prep school rinks and one college rink in New Hampshire. New Hampton, Proctor, Plymouth State and Tilton will all host games.
The bantam event is a showcase of top 2004 and 2005 players from across New England, as well as prospects from Quebec, Ontario and a few other locations. The event is broken down into three divisions: 14U Gold, 14U Black and 13U Red.
This should be a terrific opportunity for prep school coaches to get an early look at top-end players who might be interested in playing prep school hockey down the road.
The event is run by former Utica College player Matt Miles, who coaches the ’04 Vermont Flames. From this event, players will be chosen for an All-Star type event at Warrior Arena to take place next spring. There will be skills sessions, testing and games over the course of the weekend.
Neponset Valley River Rats, Northern Cyclones, South Shore Kings, and Top Gun Elite are the four local teams in the 14U Gold Division. Joining them in the top division are Toronto Titans, Whitby Wildcats, Highland Park, Ill., Carolina Jr. Hurricanes, Amiral Jean De La Mennias and Denis Francour Séminaire.
At the 14U Black Division, the local entrants are Boston Jr. Eagles, Vermont Flames, Islanders HC, Elite Hockey Academy, New Hampshire Avalanche, East Coast Militia, Providence Hockey Club and Connecticut Chiefs.
The 13U Division, made up of 2005-born players, has a few elite teams from north of the border. Montreal Nationals, Toronto Titans and Ottawa 67’s are all considered among the best in this age group. Islanders HC, Boston Jr. Eagles, Minutemen Flames, Connecticut Huskies and Westchester Express are the local teams in the 13U Division.
