USA Hockey announced its squad for this year's Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and Cam Minella was the only New Englander selected.
The Darien, Conn., native played last season for the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads, where, at 16, he notched nine points in 64 games.
That came after he left Brunswick after just one season, where he won our Rookie of the Year award in boys prep. He had 37 points in 34 games, showcasing himself as one of the most dynamic, puck-moving defensemen in the region.
Those abilities should certainly shine through in Halifax for his second season.

Minella is known as a smooth-skating, elite puck-moving defenseman. At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, he has solid size to match his puck-dominant game. He becomes eligible to commit to a Division 1 program on Aug. 1. He has heavy interest.
This year's Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be played in Edmonton, beginning Aug. 1.
Last year, the only New Englander to make the Hlinka team was Nolan Duskocy (Ellington, Conn.). But Joe Salandra, Minella's Brunswick teammate, also made the team. In 2024, Alex Donovan (Darien, Conn.) and Teddy Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) both made it for the '07s.
