Cade Webber will play for the U.S. National Team Development Program U18 team this weekend in games against Boston University and Harvard, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.
The Rivers School junior defenseman was initially invited to play for the NTDP following the organization’s evaluation camp in March 2017, but declined the offer to remain in prep school.
Webber is a 6-foot-6 defenseman committed to BU. He skates remarkably well for his size, but one knock scouts have on him is inability to find lanes and finish plays. Earlier this month, Webber was cited as a “C Skater” in NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch List.
The NTDP U18 team will play the Terriers on Friday night and Harvard on Saturday night. In addition, the team will square off against Dartmouth on Monday night. This year’s version of the NTDP U18 team is one of the best in program history. It has already defeated Michigan and Notre Dame in college exhibitions.
First-line center Jack Hughes is projected to go first overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. New England natives in forward Matt Boldy (Millis, Mass.) and goaltender Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.), both committed to Boston College, are also likely first-round draft picks.
Boston University commits Trevor Zegras and Alex Vlasic, Wisconsin commits Alex Turcotte and Cole Caufield and Michigan commit Johnny Beecher are other potential first rounders.
Three other New England natives – forwards Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) and Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass.) and defenseman Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) – are also on the NTDP U18 team.
