The Boston Bruins have agreed to a two-year entry-level contract with Minnesota Duluth senior right wing Karson Kuhlman, the Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 Frozen Four.
A native of Esko, Minn., Kuhlman appeared in all 44 games for the Bulldogs this season, registering 13 goals and seven assists. The undrafted free agent finished his collegiate career with 39 goals and 41 assists in 166 games played.
Kuhlman, who attended Bruins Development Camp last summer, was not signed for his offensive prowess. He has terrific speed, can play on the penalty kill, brings intangibles, and will be a player that can fit into any number of roles in Providence with the AHL affiliate at a worst case scenario. Kuhlman compares somewhat to former Providence College winger Brandon Tanev, now with the Winnipeg Jets, who scored the game-winning goal in the 2015 Frozen Four.
According to a tweet by Mark Divver of the Providence Journal, Bruins Player Development Coach and Minnesota resident Jamie Langenbrunner was a staunch advocate.
Kuhlman's two-year deal doesn't kick in until next season. He'll join the Providence Bruins on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
