When the U.S. U18 men's national team begins play in the IIHF U18 Men's Championship on Wednesday, three locals will represent the Red, White and Blue.
Forwards Richard Gallant (Concord, Mass.), Teddy Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) and Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) made the team.
The tournament will be held in Frisco and Allen, Texas, from April 23 to May 3. Ten countries will battle for the gold, as Team USA will be in Group B with Czechia, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland, while Group A consists of Canada, Finland, Latvia, Norway and Slovakia.
It's no surprise that Gallant and the Mutryn brothers will be there.
Gallant had a strong season with the U.S. National Team Development Program's U18 team, ranking second in goals (23) and fourth in points (45). He is one of the assistant captains with Team USA, and is slated to start at Harvard this fall. Before the NTDP, he was a star for St. Mark's, tallying 76 points in 41 games from 2021-23.
Teddy Mutryn had a great first full season of juniors. The power forward scored 17 goals and finished with 30 points in 47 games with the Chicago Steel. He also did some time with the NTDP's U18 team, finishing the season with them. He's been good enough to be ranked a late second-round candidate by NHL Central Scouting in its final rankings.
Mutryn, who is slated to begin at Boston College this fall, was a standout for St. Sebastian's from 2021-24, amassing 73 points in 67 games. He played alongside his brother, Casey, who also made Team USA.
Casey Mutryn is one of two '08s who made the roster. The other is forward Mikey Berchild, who is committed to Denver. Casey had 16 goals and 32 points in 46 games for the U17 NTDP team this winter, as well as three goals and an assist in 13 games with the U18 team. He's also committed to Boston College.

While he's not NHL Draft eligible yet, Casey looks like a potential first-round pick.
The team will be led by a local, as Greg Moore (Lisbon, Maine) is the head coach. David Lassonde, one of his assistants, is from Durham, N.H.
Team USA last won gold in 2023.
