The biggest storyline at USA Hockey's Select 17 Camp centered around which players would be selected for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Camp.
Now we know.
In total, two players from New England will go to Plymouth, Mich., from July 28-Aug. 3 to compete for a spot on the Hlinka Gretzky Cup team: Nolan Duskocy (Ellington, Conn.) and Kaiden Donia (Townsend, Mass.). The tournament will take place Aug. 11-16 in Brno, Czechia and Trenčín, Slovakia. Joining Duskocy and Donia are multiple prospects who play in the region.
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup features the U.S., Germany, Sweden, Slovakia, Czechia, Canada, Finland and Switzerland.
Duskocy is a UMass commit who has stood out for BK Selects for the last three years. The 6-foot-2, 174-pound center scored four goals and tallied two assists in six games at Select 17 Camp, helping the New England region to the championship game. He notched 36 goals and 71 points in 58 games for BK Selects' 16U team this past winter. The Charlottetown Islanders snagged him in the second round (31st overall) in the QMJHL Draft in June.
Donia played for the Massachusetts District at Select 17 Camp, registering no points in the six games. The Groton defenseman has spent the last three years at the prep school, most recently posting five goals and 12 points in 28 games. Donia stands at 6-foot-5 and 183 pounds and played two games for the USHL's Lincoln Stars this past season. He was at the U.S. National Team Development Program Evaluation Camp last year.
New England prep hockey has more than just Donia at the camp.
Brunswick star forward and Harvard commit Joe Salandra, who led the region in points last season, snagged an invite. So, too, did Kimball Union left wing Rowen Sang, who had a phenomenal showing at Select 17 Camp with seven points in six games. Salisbury defenseman Colin Feeley got an invite as well. The Harvard commit notched three goals and six points at Select 17s.
